Conspecific Parity: Why youth respond well to certain staff

Why do we connect so strongly with specific people? How does that connection increase our survival and impact our emotions and behaviors? Connection with another human being matters to our survival. We don’t just need another human. Our survival systems are looking for a person who has the same survival requirements as ours, who secured their survival needs through the same emotions, behaviors, and strategies we have, and experienced the same sensations during those events. The more similar the survival experiences the better. This is known as Conspecific Parity.
